SOS Trees is a community group dedicated to raise awareness of Old Saybrook's low tree canopy by raising funds to offer free trees to property owners in Old Saybrook. A low canopy means that as a community we are missing out on the vital health, social and economic and environmental benefits of trees: filtering air pollutants, mitigating stormwater, taking up carbon dioxide, saving energy, buffering wind, reducing sound, stabilizing ground, protecting wildlife, enhancing recreation and economic appeal and reducing urban heat zones.
SOS Trees is a fund of The Community Foundation of Middlesex County. We raise funds to purchase Climate Forward and Pollinator Powerhouse trees and are recruiting persons who want to plant and care for trees.
We will have 3 gallon container trees from a reputable nursery in these varieties:
River Birch, Serviceberry, Basswood and Dogwood trees.
