Growing Your Garden and a Fairer Food System
Growing Your Garden and a Fairer Food System begins on Thu March 28 at 6 PM. Each week, the series pairs a garden educator with a food justice or food systems educator to raise awareness in the community and inspire collective civic action to grow more equitable, sustainable food access and systems.
Week 1: Food Justice 101 x Successful Seed Starting, 6 - 7:30
Week 2: Soil Blocks x The Industrial Food System, 6 - 7:30
Week 3: Starting a Giving Garden x Food Distribution in NLC, 6 - 7:30
The program series will be recorded by Groton Municipal Television and made available for later viewing a few weeks after the final program on Thu April 11. If you would like to receive the recording but cannot attend in person, register on the library's events calendar for each program you're interested in, and then cancel your registration in the confirmation email.
Participants will be invited to sign a "Pledge to End Hunger" to get involved in various forms of direct action to support existing food justice efforts. The first 25 people to make the pledge will receive a free garden kit tote bag with seed starting materials and a grow bag.
Follow up resources and forms will also invite participants to contribute their learning experiences, reflections, and further questions to be compiled and published in a workbook documenting the series. Responses can be attributed in publication or remain anonymous. Two contributors will be selected to win a free soil test kit for participating!
Everyone is welcome to report their direct action and/or their reflections whether they view the series live or in later recordings up until June 30, 2024. This series is made possible through generous support of the Kitchings Family Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and the California Rare Books School of UCLA.
