The Sky is Made of Water Workshop with Lisa Miceli

The sky creates the atmosphere, light and mood of your paintings.  In this painting workshop students explore expressive approaches to painting skies during all seasons and changing weather conditions, with a focus on achieving a sense of light and atmosphere in your scene. This workshop will focus on helping students understand the sky as the light source, how to create a convincing transition between the dome of sky and the horizon, and how to paint clouds in their many forms as an essential element of the composition. We will focus on how to convey color and tonal variations in skies and clouds to establish the season, weather, and time of day of your scene.

Students will learn how to drop pigment onto paper at different stages of drying and how to achieve atmospheric perspective and mood using different strengths of pigment. Practicing these techniques can help students to gain confidence in wet-into-wet, damp into wet, and damp into dry techniques using larger brushes.

Students may bring their own photographic references of skies and clouds in land and seascapes, etc.  or you may work from the demo images.

All levels of students are welcome.
