“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.” This quote from poet Diane Ackerman is
particularly appropriate for this year’s fundraising theme – “Play”. We envision the truly
deserving children who are patients in the Children’s Behavioral Health clinic enjoying the
very best and safest playground and outdoors space.

Since 1989, the Friends of Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital has worked to improve the
health and well-being of pediatric patients through the support of clinical care, education and outreach. Friends’ fundraising efforts have given more than $3 million to the hospital. This
year, our fundraising efforts will benefit the Children’s Behavioral Health Playground
undergoing a much-needed renovation.

Today the demand for psychological services is at an all-time high, especially among children. The American Academy of Pediatrics has declared child and adolescent mental health a
“national health emergency.” Nearly 20% of children and young people ages 3-17 in the United States have a mental, emotional, developmental, or behavioral disorder, and suicidal behaviors among high school students increased more than 40% in the decade before 2019.

You are invited to our benefit fundraiser at LoRicco Towers in New Haven on Friday,
November 8, 2024, for a newly imagined event, “Bids & Bites.” A casual affair, with tasty
samples from some trendy restaurants that will be generously donating their time and
delicious food.
